WALDOBORO — Voters from the Town of Waldoboro will cast ballots during the town’s annual town meeting June 8 on a series of warrant articles, including what to do with the property of the former A.D. Gray School.

The Town will have in person voting June 8 at the Town Office from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Those preferring to vote by absentee ballot can call the Municipal Clerk's Office at 207-832-5369 and press 5, or request in-person at the town clerk’s office. In-person requests can be made up to 8 p.m. on Election Day; telephone requests must be made by June 3 at 5 p.m.

Warrant Highlights

Article 32. Shall the Town vote to amend the Fire Department Insurance Claim and Restitution Ordinance to allow for updating unit costs relating to billing? 

Article 33. Shall the Town vote to amend the Shellfish Management Ordinance to revise establishment of residency requirement from 3 months to 365 days for commercial shellfish harvesting licenses? Shellfish Committee recommends 9-0.

Article 45. Shall the Town approve the creation of up to 36 units of affordable senior housing on the site of the former A.D. Gray School and authorize the Select Board to convey the A.D. Gray School property (Map U-4, Lot 63) to Volunteers of America for $1.00 and on such other terms and conditions that the Select Board deems to be in the best interest of the Town?

Article 46. (By voter petition): Shall the Town approve the creation of the A.D. Gray Park to be located on the property containing the former A.D. Gray School (Map U-4, Lot 63) and the adjacent properties located on Map U-4, Lot 62 and Map U-5, Lot 30? Petitioners’ Explanatory: This municipal park would exist in perpetuity and be created without the use of Town tax dollars; creating the park would include removing the former A.D. Gray building, removing the obsolete tennis courts, and restoring the wetland and buffer area on the property. It is petitioners’ hope that in addition to the existing athletic fields, this park will eventually include a gazebo, children’s playground, recreational courts, farmers’ market and community gardens, which may or may not require private or public funds.
