Tech Center culinary students make life sweeter for Hospice volunteers

Waldo County Technical Center’s (WCTC) Culinary Arts program made life a little sweeter for Hospice volunteers last week when they baked over 300 different types of scones for the organization’s annual Spring Sports Day.

Students baked eight different types of scones, including blueberry lemon, coconut lime, and pumpkin maple.

When Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County’s Flick Shooter approached WCTC’s Culinary Program with this request, the group was ready to pay the school for the scone ingredients, according to WCTC, in a news release. However, because of the worthiness of this cause, students decided to use money from their event tip jar to pay for the needed materials.

“I’m so glad we could help those who volunteer for Hospice,” said Bella Greene, a Belfast Area High School (BAHS) senior.

Emma Casey, also a BAHS senior, said that “it felt nice to give to a good cause.”
