THOMASTON — A Rockland man remains in jail after he was arrested March 25 for a domestic violence assault that caused multiple injuries to a woman.

Joshua L. Ross, 36, was arrested by Thomaston Police and charged with Class A aggravated domestic violence assault and violating a condition of release. Police said the incident occurred March 24 at a residence in Thomaston.

The state elevated the domestic violence charge to a Class A crime for Ross based on his previous convictions for crimes of violence that occurred during the last 10 years, according to the court document.

Judge Sarah Gilbert set bail at $5,000 cash during Ross’ initial court appearance March 25. The judge ordered Ross to be held without bail on a motion the state filed on the same day to revoke his preconviction bail since he was arrested on a warrant Jan. 24 on a misdemeanor charge of failing to report. Ross was released on bail based on the condition that he have no new criminal conduct.

According to the affidavit filed in court by Thomaston Police, the victim’s injuries were identified as marks on her neck, including broken blood vessels, injuries to her upper arm, and a welt on her head. Police said the woman had been dragged across the floor.

Ross is scheduled to appear in court again May 16 for a dispositional conference.
