Incumbent Janice Dodge, a Democrat, was challenged this election cycle in the race for State House District 97 by Republican William Elliot, Jr. 

Originally, Dodge was being challenged by Matthew Digioia until he dropped out of the race in August. 

The district serves the communities of Belfast, Northport and Waldo. 

Dodge, according to her PenBayPilot.com candidate questionnaire, spent three decades as an educator and has volunteered for several local and state organizations. 

Elliot did not return his candidate questionnaire, despite repeated requests for its submission.
