Gilbert ‘Gibby’ R. Bryant, obituary

WASHINGTON — Gilbert “Gibby” Bryant, 62, died July 26,2022 at his home in Washington. Born on Jan. 11, 1960 in Rockland, he was the son of Gilbert and Christina Bryant and grew up in Camden. 

Gibby attended Camden schools and graduated from Camden Rockport High School in 1979. Gibby was a talented all-around athlete being named to Babe Ruth Baseball Athlete of the Year. He also played football, basketball and soccer, and his love of sports continued throughout his life. As an adult, he was active in martial arts and billiards, winning his way to Las Vegas to participate in billiard tournaments.

Gibby enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing poker, and collecting sports memorabilia. He loved to help people, especially children and enjoyed talking to and sharing stories.

For 15 years, Gibby was employed at the Maine State Prison as the Kitchen Supervisor. He had also worked as a chef at several restaurants including The Black Pearl and The Offshore Restaurant. In addition, he had managed Town Line Market and Tolman Pond Market.

Predeceased by his parents and his son, Gibby, with whom he shared an eternal bond; he is survived by many friends and was truly one of a kind.

He will be sadly missed and remembered by all who knew him.

There will be a graveside remembrance service for Gibby on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 2 p.m., at the Mountain View Cemetery in Camden with the Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Mid Coast Wrestling Club Gibby Bryant Memorial Scholarship.
