CAMDEN — The Camden Rotary Club will learn about efforts of the Curtis Island Lighthouse Foundation and the Town of Camden to historically restore the Curtis Island Light Station during its meeting, Tuesday, May 7, at noon.

Camden resident Michael Skaling will discuss the light station's history, from its construction in 1834 to its reconstruction in the late 1800s. He will also discuss the connection to the Coast Guard and the current ownership by the Town of Camden.

Drawing parallels between a classic wooden boat undergoing a marine survey and the light station undergoing a conditions assessment, Skaling will share the assessment's initial findings and plans for fundraising and restoration over the next three to five years.

The foundation aims to restore the facility's appearance to the early 1900s when it was a fully operating Coast Guard lighthouse, preserving Curtis Island for the next 100 years for community members and visitors.

Skaling was born in Brunswick and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Maine, a master's degree from the University of Massachusetts, and a certificate in leadership judgment from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. He is a longtime consultant in change management, organization, and leadership development.

Camden Rotary Club welcomes visitors to its meetings, in person or on Zoom at noon every Tuesday at First Congregational Church in Camden. For more details, visit www.camdenrotary.org.
